Day 30 - Red Wing to Stillwater, MN

Miles biked today: 48

Total mileage to date: 1530

My mantra since Maine, "It will only get warmer" failed me today. I had a chilly start to my morning with the all so familiar headwinds as I crossed into Wisconsin for half of my morning. For a break from the cold and wind I stopped for a Mother's Day brunch at an adorable town of Prescott. I jumped back on the bike after a long lunch break and crossed the Mississippi again to reenter Minnesota.

I landed in Stillwater by 4:00 and spent the evening with my couchsurfing host (Elizabeth), her father and some of her friends. Elizabeth cooked an amazing vegetarian dinner. We walked downtown and she gave me a tour of the adorable downtown of Stillwater. On the way home we stopped in the locals favorite ice cream parlor where the kiddie size cup is nearly a pint of ice cream for only $3. I patted myself on the back because I had the infant size serving including one spoon full to sample one flavor. I went to bed early as I had finished a long stretch of days filled with many miles.

When we talked at Flanagan Casy's I mentioned I had started the South Beach diet. It's been two weeks since I started and phase one is over. I lost 12 lbs. I weigh on a good scale at the gym and wear the same cloths. It must be true. We usually start planting corn April 15 and May 15 is close. We are a month late. You may have seen some planting in progress in Iowa or Minnesota.
